6-Step Guide To Planning Your Wedding
Hey everybody! My name is Raquel Brizuela from raquelofalife.com, a blog about the ups and downs of learning to live through and enjoy this crazy adventure we call life. I am currently in the process of planning a wedding, MY wedding! It has been such an awesome ride so far and you can say I’ve learned a few things along the way and I’d like to share some of the knowledge with you! Read through for more.
Today we’re going to go over how to kickstart the wedding planning! There will be A LOT to discuss with your partner throughout your wedding planning! You may even feel overwhelmed by all the decisions you’ll have to make and things you’ll have to get done. However, to try and keep that from happening (at least for now), there are a few things you can start off with in order to know where to begin your journey for wedding planning.
Budget
- Probably one of the most important factors for a majority of couples in the wedding planning process is not only setting the budget, but actually sticking to it! As fun as it is to dream big and picture a Pinterest Perfect wedding, it’s time to get real! You will definitely want to start off talking about your budget with your partner and anyone else who may contribute to the wedding, such as parents or other family members. This will certainly help initiate the discussion for the rest of the topics and give you a good base to work off.
Date
- The next most important thing you will want to start thinking about? The date! You don’t have to set it in stone right this moment, but you should try to ballpark it by season and by month if possible! This will help when you start talking to vendors, since one of the first questions they will ask you is for your wedding date. Also remember that the time of year you decide to celebrate will likely affect your overall feel, color scheme, or theme for your big day as well.
Guests
- Do you want a big event with hundreds of your friends and family there? Or do you want a really intimate celebration with just you two and your closest companions? This is clearly something you should talk over with your partner, because this can influence both the general vibe of the wedding and, of course, the cost of the overall wedding. You may also want to talk about the guest list with your family! I know my parents are going to be adding some family members I don’t even know I have to the list. That’s what happens when you come from a big Mexican family, right?! LOL.
Church & Venue
- If you are more traditional, you and your partner will likely want a church ceremony and reception venue wedding. If you are a little more contemporary or creative, you may want to look into different and interesting locations for your wedding celebration. Think beach weddings or art galleries. Whatever it is that you want, you should discuss certain things like: cost, location, and capacity. These specifics will undoubtedly help you narrow down your options to suit the feel and budget of your wedding.
Bridal Party
- Another really important aspect of the planning is the bridal party. Whether you have one or not, if you decide on a party of four or fourteen, these choices should be ones you talk over with your partner. If I’m being honest, be sure to put a lot of thought into this decision, as it will bring along many more decisions to make! AKA bridesmaids dresses, just for starters!
Music
- Last, but definitely not least, is the music! Do you want a string quartet, a live band, or a DJ? There are countless options for music and entertainment for your wedding reception, so you will likely want to narrow down your options for this as well. You can do this by considering things like your budget, the space needed for the entertainment, and what ambiance you’ll want for your big day! Just make sure to pick something you love since music is like the heart of the party!
Yes, there are a hundred and one other things you will have to discuss and decide on before your wedding day, but talking about the topics listed above will help you kickstart the process. Getting a feel for what both you and your partner want for each of these aspects of the big day, will help you start on the right foot and move forward in the best direction with planning one of the biggest celebrations of your life! Happy planning!
