The Perfect Venue
Alright Y’all! Today we’re talking venues! In my opinion, the venue is one of the biggest to-do’s on the list for planning a wedding.
The location of a wedding can change the whole feel. So let’s start off with some things you may want to consider when narrowing down options for the wedding venue:
What to Consider
The color palette / overall feel of the venue:
- One of the biggest deal breakers for deciding on a venue may be its style. If you’re envisioning a light and lively garden party, a dimly-lit, baroque reception hall may not be the best option for your wedding. So stick to your vision and find something that fits.
- If the venue comes with an event coordinator Some venues come with their own coordinators. However, make sure to ask how involved they are going to be, some may be full-on wedding planners, day-of coordinators, or just a point of contact for your other venues.
The walking/driving distance from the ceremony location:
- If you don’t want your guests getting stuck in traffic or dealing with a long commute, it is important to consider how long it may take them to get from your ceremony location to the reception venue. Tip: Some locations may have accommodations to host both parts of the wedding!
The amount of decorating is needed:
- This aspect can also tie into your budget! If you are using a hotel venue, you will need less decor than if you’re using an empty barn. So consider the amount you’re willing to spend on things like linens, tables, florals, etc. when picking a location.
Alright, now that you have filtered through all the options you have available, it’s time to think come up with some questions to ask venues. These are some that I think are really important and top-of-the-list:
What to Ask
What is included in the price?
- When deciding on a venue, it is essential to ask for specifics about what is included in the contract. Some may offer packages that include the catering, cake, music, etc. so be sure to not only compare prices but what is included in the prices as well.
Is there a preferred vendor list?
- Many venues have a list of preferred or approved vendors. However, some may have restrictions to only working with the vendors on their list, so double check this when looking at locations. If you have your heart set on a bakery, you don’t want to get stuck being unable to contract them because of venue restrictions.
Is there on-site parking? How many parking spaces are available?
- One thing I definitely did not realize when visiting locations was parking availability. If your guest list is pretty long, you want to be certain that your invitees will be able to park on-site. But if you’re set on a venue and totally fine with having your guests park in a garage a few blocks away, that’s cool too.
What is the venue capacity?
- Probably a pretty obvious question, but also one that may slip your mind if you’re hypnotized by a beautiful venue! Make sure that the location can fit the number of guests you’re hoping will attend the wedding.
Are you looking at venues for your wedding? What style you’re going for if you are?! If you’re just planning for the future, what would your absolute dream venue be?
