Bachelorette Weekend

Hello! My name is Raquel Brizuela Guzman from raquelofalife.com, a blog about the ups and downs of learning to live through and enjoy this crazy adventure we call life. The last time I wrote for Laredo Weddings I was right in the thick of wedding planning. I am now going into my second month of being married, hence the name change. I am happy to say my wedding was such a beautiful and memorable day. Therefore, I am so grateful to have even the smallest role in helping you plan for your wedding! I definitely learned from my experiences with planning all my wedding events and I am delighted to share this with you.

Bachelorette parties. For most brides, this event is a pretty big celebration on the path to the wedding. Although this event is often planned by the Maid of Honor along with the other bridesmaids, it’s important to remember that this is for the bride. Therefore, bachelorette parties should be anything the bride would like them to be! Whether that be lots of glitter and drinks or a popcorn and 80’s movie night. Lately, we have also seen a rise in Bachelorette weekends, basically mini getaways for your girl gang to really enjoy each other’s company. This of course takes a bit more planning than a single night event like a traditional bachelorette party, so read through for some tips on how to plan a successful bachelorette weekend getaway.

Pick a Theme:

  • There are countless themes available to use for a bachelorette weekend. So it’s basically up to the bride to decide what kind of feel she would like to go for for the weekend. Some popular themes you may want to go over are beach or boating, winery weekend, country dancing, and even fiesta themed. Of course, there are cute little sayings to go with each theme. Some to keep in mind: Wine down for the Wedding or the bride’s Final Fiesta. These saying help with tying together the invites, decor, and even social media captions! You could also use a location as a basis for your theme for example, Nashville, Miami, or Vegas! Remember to keep the bride’s request in mind, whether she wants a quiet and relaxing weekend or if she can’t wait to let loose and break some rules.

Discuss a Budget:

  • Sure we might all desire a long weekend getaway to Cabo San Lucas with every single one of our gal pals. However, it is important to take everyone’s budget into account. Weddings can be expensive for the bridal party, there’s the dresses, the traveling, the hotel stays. As a bride, you should want everyone else to enjoy the bachelorette just as much as yourself. It just wouldn’t be fair to make any of your guests feel excluded from the fun because of their financial situation. So be sure to ask the invitees for their expected budget for the weekend.
  • Additionally, just because you’re working on a lower budget does not mean you can’t have a fun-filled weekend! For example, most of my bridesmaids do not live in my hometown. So we hosted the bachelorette weekend in Austin, which was kind of a midpoint for all of us, since we’re all over Texas. This helped us cut costs and still have a great time!

Entertainment and Itineraries:

  • If you’re going away for the weekend, you want to try and plan as best as possible to keep your guests entertained. Fun activities for the bachelorette weekend can revolve around the theme. For example, going two-stepping for a country weekend or hitting up a spa for a weekend of pampering. Also, it’s important to plan out a timeline and keep key details in mind as you do. Things you will want to take note of are travel time for all guests and the time needed for getting around town. Also plan time for sitting and chatting or running to the store for anything you might have forgotten. These will affect your itinerary for the weekend therefore you’ll want to plan any reservations around them.

Go with the Flow:

  • As with all things, no matter how much we plan, somethings will likely still go wrong. Like, let’s say you’re playing giant Jenga at the hotel bar when suddenly you get soaked in champagne as the game pieces topple over and ruin the only pants you packed. (LOL, yes this happened to me!) Or if you planned a day at the beach and got rained in. Or if any of the million things that can stray from the plan do, don’t worry. Relax, pop a bottle of champs, and enjoy!

I had a BLAST at my bachelorette weekend! Shout out to my fabulous Matron and Maid of Honor, my bridesmaids, and all the lovely girls who were able to join. I hope these tips help kickstart your bachelorette planning and make it just that more exciting! As always, feel free to find me on Instagram, @raquelofalife, and send me any questions you may have about preparing for any of your wedding events; I’d love to help! Until next time!
